Life drawing

Today i experienced my first life drawing lesson and it was very hard! one thing i really struggled with was hands and feet. The medium i was using was black and white chalk and it was a bit to thick for me to draw something small like fingers and i found myself struggling with the proportions as well.

London 2012 Olympic Posters

 Here is one of Otl Aicher's Olympic posters for Munchen 1972, Using his style i was asked to create my own poster designs for our London 2012 Olympics next year.

 Here is one of my poster designs for basket ball. To create this first i opened up my image in photoshop and turn it into a greyscale image and then to a cmykimage. I then created my own gradient, for this image i used pink yellow and blue. I then posterized my image which got rid of all of the half tone colours. I then used gradient map and applied my new gradient i had made. After i had my photograph at the right colours i opened it up on indesign and moved the image into place cropping it to where i think looked best for a poster. I then added in the Olympic logo and rings which i drew up in illustrator. The olympic font i found on a website called dafont.com and i wrote the name of the sport in the top left hand corner

 Here is another poster design i made for basketball, this time i changed the gradient to orange, yellow and purple.

Here is my poster design for the Olympic sport table tennis. The gradient i chose for this one was blue, green and yellow. I am very pleased with all of my Olympic posters and it was fun learning how to create it in the style of Otl Aicher.

Concrete Circus

Concrete Circus aired on channel 4 last night and while im not very much into skateboarding, bmxing or free running myself i found it a very entertaining documentary.

The show brought together the 4 best sportsmen from each urban sport. which i gather was based on the amount of youtube hits they had. Each sportsman had to choose a director and in two weeks come up with the most entertaining short film.

While the talent in these videos was incredible i was more impressed with the directors contribution. Each director had a completely different take on how to make the film and you could really see alot of there personality come through in there work.

Whtstable Regatta

 

 

On the 13th and 14th August the whitstable regatta came back to tankerton slopes. So along with my boyfriend and a few best mates i went down to check out the festivaties. There were fair ground rides, spitfire planes, stalls selling food, jewellery, dvds, furniture and at the end of the day there was fireworks. It was a much better turn out than the previous years and the weather managed to hold up untill it got dark. I came away with a few sci-fi dvds and a huge bruse on my back from one of the rides :D

Brick Lane

On Friday 1^st July I went on a college trip to Brick lane to visit the D&AD gallery where they were having a New Blood exhibition. Here I was able to view work from different universities and see what the art students were coming up with.  It was nice to view work from people more my age and who were also currently studying a course similar to mine. Whilst there I took some pictures of my classmates and some of the work that was on show and picked up a bunch of business cards and university booklets, These gave me a bunch of ideas of what sort of thing I should be making to promote myself as a graphic designer, artist, photographer, whatever I want to be.

After an hour or so of looking around the D&AD we were given a few hours to go and explore London, so naturally I went to the shops. Rough Trade was just around the corner and was full of graffiti and art, you could see where bands had come in and tagged the walls. There was also a black and white photo booth where everyone had stuck photos of themselves up on the walls. It was awesome and nothing like the music shops you get round Kent.  Everywhere you looked outside there was graffiti, which gave me some good opportunities to take some pictures.

Once we were done scouting the area for graffiti we moved onto old Spitalfields market where there was a huge variety of stands hosting Vintage clothing, band merchandise, Jewellery, Dvds, Antique furniture, food anything you fancy. One of the stalls I spoke to they had designed their clothes themselves. They had drawn up sketches and had them printed onto t-shirts and were very impressive. I came out with a few Beatles pieces and a few bags.

Overall it was a really nice day out, it was good to see a new area of London I hadn’t seen before, and get a peek into what new artists are coming up with. Definitely somewhere I will be visiting again if not for the art then definitely for the shopping.
